Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct complex power system studies and analysis using advanced simulation software such as MATLAB, DigSilent, and eTAP. 
  • Perform system and equipment design, specification, validation, and commissioning. 
  • Produce clear and concise engineering documentation. 
  • Ensure Power System designs comply with health and safety regulations, international standards, and class society rules. 

Requirements 

  • Detailed knowledge of power conversion systems and supporting equipment. 
  • Experience in industrial, marine, or naval defence applications. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with initiative. 
  • Familiarity with marine classification society, MIL, or DEF standards. 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field; working towards or holding a Chartered Engineer (CEng) qualification is desirable.

Power Systems Engineer 

Green Data Talent is working alongside a leader in renewable energy and power generation who are seeking a recognised Power Systems expert to join a world-class team. You’ll provide technical leadership, design complex MW-scale Power Systems, and contribute to the overall strategy across Defence, Marine, Energy, and Industrial applications. 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Act as a technical expert in Power Systems and associated components and equipment. 
  • Provide technical ownership of projects to support the development of safe, technically compliant, and cost-effective Power System solutions. 
  • Design and model Power Systems using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, eTAP, DigSilent, and PSCAD. 
  • Develop equipment specifications and Functional Design Specifications (FDS). 
  • Ensure Power System designs comply with health and safety regulations, international standards, and class society rules. 
  • Knowledge of Power Electronic Converter system integration. 

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Support on-time delivery, cost, and quality targets while maintaining a strong focus on safety. 
  • Provide project-level technical leadership, including reviews, resource forecasting, and time estimation. 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent industrial experience.

Lead Power Electronics Engineer 

Green Data Talent is working alongside a leader in renewable energy and power generation who are seeking an experienced Power Electronics Engineer. You will lead and perform low-voltage and medium-voltage power electronics and electrical design tasks for Drive System projects. This technical role involves specifying, designing, supporting manufacturing, and validating MW-scale power electronics for marine, energy, and industrial applications. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the electrical and mechanical design of power, control, and cooling systems by specifying and designing power electronics converter solutions. 
  • Undertake all aspects of power electronics circuit design, including snubber design, gating electronics, and thermal design. 
  • Perform fault level studies and develop protection strategies. 
  • Produce schematics using Eplan or equivalent software. 
  • Manage Bills of Materials (BoMs) and implement change management processes. 
  • Verify, validate, and test low-voltage and medium-voltage power electronic systems, including drives, converters, and inverters. 
  • Ensure designs comply with health and safety standards, international standards, and class society rules. 
  • Provide technical assistance to tendering, testing, and commissioning teams. 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Power Electronics; a master’s or PhD is desirable. 
  • Knowledge of power electronic converter control systems design and analysis. 
  • Knowledge of electrical machine control methods and converter design is desirable. 
  • Strong knowledge of semiconductor devices, gating electronics, snubber circuits, and thermal design. 
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas for short-term assignments. 

Drives Control Application Software Engineer 

Green Data Talent is working alongside a leader in renewable energy and power generation who are seeking an experienced Drives Control Application Software Engineer. You will take part in the development of Control Application Software for a range of Electric Drive Systems. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Specify, design, code, validate, and maintain application software for megawatt-scale power electronic drive systems for marine, naval, energy, and industrial applications. 
  • Validate Application Software using Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) rigs and laboratory test drives. 
  • Develop application software interfaces for peripheral equipment. 
  • Support commissioning and validation of electrical drive systems. 
  • Integrate control software into larger systems and verify functionality. 
  • Travel to customer sites for meetings or equipment validation, typically a few times per year for durations ranging from a few days to up to two weeks. 

Requirements 

  • Relevant degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Software Engineering, or equivalent skills with software engineering experience. 
  • Basic understanding of programming principles for electrical machines, electrical drives, and converters. 
  • Ability to translate high-level design requirements into efficient and robust software. 
  • Familiarity with converter systems and power converter topologies for AC/DC, DC/AC, and DC/DC systems.
